Theatre in Education
North Country Theatre work with school groups using drama and role play to support curriculum objectives, both on site specific projects and by visiting schools or colleges. We have worked in partnership with the National Trust at Fountains Abbey for more than 17 years, particularly exploring monastic life and Henry 8th's dissolution of the Monastery but also the less well known Elizabethan Fountains Hall. We have considerable experience of working in and around historical sites both with school children and the general public.
Lady Caroline's Cargo - Using the fantastic setting of the Elizabethan Hall and the nearby medieval mill this day long role play engages children in a non stop drama of social history, with a whiff of piracy and a pinch of Shakespeare.
Monastery and Monarch - In this day long interactive drama, the children become cistercian monks to learn about the abbey's 400 year history and then enter the court of Henry 8th to explore his decision to destroy the monasteries. Suitable for groups of up to 60 in the 8-11 age range.
We also devise tailor made participatory drama workshops for primary schools like our Suitcase of Stories project about evacuees in the dales or supply experience professional actors to work with drama students in skills based workshops.
