About North Country Theatre
Based in the beautiful Yorkshire Dales market town of Richmond, North Country Theatre specialised in taking professional theatre out into the country, touring to village halls, small theatres, arts centres, churches, auction marts, castles, railway waiting rooms, hotels, gardens, almost anywhere in fact. We toured from Hereford and Shropshire to the Scottish Borders and Highlands though most of our performances took place in our native North Yorkshire region. Generally, our work fell into three broad categories touring productions, educational and site specific activities.
North Country Theatre was set up in 1996 by Nobby Dimon with the aid of a £1,000 project grant from what was then Yorkshire Arts. We became a company limited by guarantee (i.e. a "not for profit" company) managed by a board of local people.
As well as our full time Artistic Director a large number of people worked regularly for us on a project to project basis to create our touring theatre, educational and site specific projects. The company was regularly funded by Arts Council England until March 2012 and thereafter by the generosity of its loyal supporters around the country who gave generously as part of our audiences, Friends of North Country Theatre, Angels of the North Country and through sponsorship and donations. We had a dedicated network of volunteers who assisted with a range of administrative and theatrical tasks.
Whether you are an individual, group or commercial businesses we would like to thank everyone who helped us to bring high quality theatre into rural community venues.
