A HOST OF ANGELS SWOOP IN AS REGULAR ARTS COUNCIL SUPPORT WITHDRAWN
A new and innovative way to fund rural touring theatre through private subscription
and community investment
Following the devastating news that North Country Theatre's regular funding from
Arts Council England will be completely withdrawn from 2012 we have come up with
a new and innovative way to help keep the company on the road.
Our Angels scheme invites individuals, households, businesses, schools, community
groups etc to invest in the company by
- pledging to make a minimum donation of £100 a year for the next three years.
- sponsoring a production
- making a one off donation.
We have produced a prospectus detailing how this can be done and you can either
download a pdf here or we can post
one out to you please contact us
and send us a mailing address.
Given the outstanding popularity of North Country's work and our long track record
of really good theatre performed in rural areas we know that our loyal following
and many promoters in village halls and rural theatres across the region were shocked
by the ACE decision – but we have been buoyed by the many messages of support and
the host of Angels that have started to bless the company with their financial support.

Real Vikings join the Egil Saga Company
Two Norwegian students Karoline Nylund and Kari Åse Smestad are joining us on a work experience basis for the Egil tour this month. This has been arranged through Richmond’s Town Twinning Association. We think giving young people a taste of and insight into our profession is important and we are delighted to be hosting Karoline and Kari and looking forward to working with them. They belong to the Peer Gynt Theatre, Youth Theatre in Nord Fron Kommune . We may even be able to work some real old Norse into the script now.
Angels appear in Shropshire !
Supporters of North Country from Cornwall to the Scottish Borders have responded our Angels campaign as individuals groups and businesses. A group of our regular supporters in Shropshire in a cluster of communities around Edgton Bishops Castle and Craven Arms (incidentally one of the most beautiful areas we visit outside the Dales ) are creating a fund raising event for us in Edgton Village Hall February 18th.
Local musicians poets and actors are presenting a cabaret evening and hope to raise enough money to become Angels for the next three years. If you live in that area give Martin Walters a call on 01588 672248 or email davidbill@mypostoffice.co.uk . If any Friends of North Country Theatre would like a weekend away in a beautiful area with a Saturday night village hall do at the heart of it, give them a call.
Friends membership has jumped over the last few months from 200 households to 300.
